A Beautiful Wall from Christine Ralph
The current March 2011 issue of Canadian House and Home has a wonderful mix of inspiration. I’ve bookmarked the article called Artfully Edited, a tour from the home of Christine Ralph (co-founder of the Club Monaco brand). This is my new inspiration. I’ve been scouring the Internet and magazines, searching for inspiration for my living room wall and it’s been a bit difficult deciding as it’s a larger than average wall. Just one large art piece or photography wouldn’t do the trick. Then I stumbled upon this photo by photographer Virginia MacDonald {check out her website, you’ll be happy you did!}. I especially enjoy the cohesiveness of the black, white, silver and gold mix. Notice there isn’t much color, it has a peaceful and relaxing tone. I think I might just add one piece which has a splash of color to add interest… hmmm I’ll see how that goes.
What I like about this wall decor is that it’s a nice mix of pieces. My favorite pieces are the Scribble Art from PI Fine Art. I went to their website but it’s currently under construction. I might attempt to do my own version, a cost savings and a great art project I think. I’m surprised at myself how much I’m starting to like gold. I’ve always been a silver girl myself but lately I’ve been drawn to pieces in gold. I’m eyeing a very unique sunburst mirror at Homesense but have not purchased it as it’s gold and I don’t have any gold yet in my home. This inspiration photo is making me rethink my decor strategy.
Recreate this Room
I’ve searched and scoured the Internet for pieces similar to this room.
The Gold Stool from the background really stood out to me personally. I’m excited that mixing gold and silver works. I found a similar stool at Amazon, it’s really nice and modern. The Silva Modern Burnt Gold Metallic Ceramic Garden Stool has a nice color too and it’s not too “bright and shiny” if you know what I mean. It’s a subtle piece but with a glamorous touch. Or I found the exact Chinoiserie Gold Stool, they are both nice options.
The classic Vitra New Panton Chair, a very curvy chair with a statement. The newer versions of this chair are also made for indoors and outdoors, perfect to add that modern touch to your outdoor space too.
Here is some art that I’ve found on Etsy, the perfect place to support artists and discover affordable finds.

{Video} House & Home Tour: Arren Williams
Ah, the lovely Arren Williams has shared his home with House & Home home tour video collection. {This new series of videos from House & Home are really well done.} I always enjoy watching Arren on the Cityline TV show. He’s a talented stylist, designer and blogger. This photo is a nice snapshot of what this video home tour has to offer. What impressed me most is that there wasn’t too much color, simply well chosen pieces and just the right hits of color, pattern and texture. The wallpaper choices are well done as they don’t take away from the rest of the decor, it all blends well together.
