I Heart Marimekko

I heart everything Marimekko!  There are so many amazing and wonderful elements to this beautifully designed brand.  Here are some of my favorite finds…

Book

Marimekko: Fabrics, Fashion, Architecture (Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design & Culture)
Founded in 1951 by visionary textile designer Armi Ratia and her husband, Viljo, the Marimekko Corporation in Finland not only sparked a revolution in pattern making but also pioneered a new definition of fashion that embraced the entire home environment. This book-the first comprehensive study of Marimekko designs-presents more than one hundred examples of the exuberant Marimekko fashions and home furnishings that gave the company a definitive presence on the world design stage. The book considers the history of the company from its founding through today and examines Marimekko’s impact on design in Finland and around the world. The company’s most important designers, including Maija Isola and Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi, their contributions, and their stylistic development are also discussed. In addition, the book examines Marimekko home and office interiors and how they reflected the lifestyle envisioned in Armi Ratia’s broad, radical definition of fashion.

Marimekko Kippis Tray
Serve your spirits in style with a little help from Marimekko. This new design features an array of glasses and goblets drawn in the energetic hand of Maija Louekari. Its large size means it will easily accommodate anything from cocktails to appetizers so your party will be stocked and chic.

Marimekko Ihmemaa “Wonderland” Textile Art
Swirling shades of blue, orange, pink and purple conspire on this gorgeous fabric by Sanna Annukka. The pattern displays a landscape from the Kalevala called Kaleva or the Land of Heroes. The landscape features rolling hills and sprawling meadows, tall trees and vibrant flowers. A single bird flies through the sky and a little house sets smoke into the sky. It is an undeniably charming scene, rendered in the stylized style of artist Sanna Annukka. A great way to decorate your home, this textile art is bound to inspire plenty of compliments.

Skylark Tray by iBride

I just luv trays (I’m sure I’ve said this more than once or twice), but it’s true.  I actually use them for decor, they’re too pretty to use.

Description
Use as serving tray, to display jewelry and other delicacies or as an elegant wall hanging. The Skylark Tray by iBride is a beautiful design accent in any room.

Laminate with wood core. Measures 16″ x 10.5″

Ibride, pronounced “e-breed,” is created by a French family in the south of France. The archival imagery is inspired by their travels as well as their local environment. The word ‘ibride’ itself is a play on words meaning ‘hybrid’, and the pieces combine a dual purpose of serving as sturdy and functional trays, but more often they are used as decorative art to accent home decor.

Through magical imagery and intricate lattice work, iBride simultaneously creates a modern and yet nostalgic feeling. Each tray is constructed using a turn-of-the-century process. The construction process uses a high-pressure laminate with a pre-recycled wood core. The result is a functional tray that is more often used as an elegant wall hanging. Trays using these materials can be found in restaurants and cafes throughout Europe.
